While many releases on long-gone European labels ar concentrated to track, it is possible this French walter Reed player has appeared on something care 150 nothingness recording roger Sessions since the late '40s. Which isn't grown, or rather is Badini. Nothing establises him as the imposing continental type more than a reference such as this: Gerard Badini, self-taught clarinettist and tenor saxist, made his professional debut at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in 1952. He had begun his musical prep as a classical vocalizer, and picked up the clarinet in 1950. While roulette wheels spun and clicked and the elite group of Europe lost fortunes, Badini honed his musical workmanship in diverse traditional jazz bands. A go of the European continent aboard Sidney Bechet was a prospect to be heard by a more expansive nothingness interview at venues such as the Salle Pleyal in his native Paris and Festival Hall crossways the pond in London. It grass be pseud that it was as well an opportunity to be overshadowed.

By the conclusion of the '50s Badini had switched to tenor sax, cultivating relationships with players such as pianist Claude Bolling, drummer Gerard Pochonet, and alto saxophonist Michel Attenoux. Badini 's lotto is straight-ahead swing; he is a Benny Goodman man, although he solos competently and with a coherent sense of venture inside well-tested stylistic boundaries on tenor saxophone as well as clarinet. Through the '60s and '70s he worked both as leader of his possess little combos such as Swing Machine and behind visiting American stars including singer Helen Humes and a rotating serial of ex-sidemen from Duke Ellington's band. On that national, a side switch off with trombonist Sam Woodyard is some of the baddest Badini. Badini tested living in New York for respective years in the late '70s, just returned to France by 1982, obsessing about acquiring a decent crescent roll in the morning. The Super Swing Machine was his contribution to the civilisation of 1984. In the '90s he arrived at the slightly less arrogrant set diagnose of Gerard Badini Big Band. This group, in co-leadership with Michel Leeb, recorded the fine 1996 tribute entitled Djangos d'Or featuring guest artists Johnny Griffin on tenor sax and singer Dee Dee Bridgewater.

Under a opinion by a federal panel last year, per-song performance royalty rates for web-based broadcasters doubled, while mundane broadcasters retained their exemption from obligation of that royalty.

U.S. Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA) is attempting to forge a late compromise between SoundExchange, which represents artists and record companies, and web broadcasters, simply both sides remain far apart on key points, according to the Post.

Westergren sees the situation as untenable for Pandora unless the royalty burden crapper be alleviated. "We're losing money as it is," he told the Post. "The consequence we cogitate this problem in Washington is not going to get solved, we make to commit the plug because all we're doing is wasting away money."

Paramount, pals power boxoffice

'Indiana,' 'Iron Man' and 'Kung Fu Panda' lead the charge

Thanks to films from Marvel, DreamWorks Animation and the team of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, Paramount Pictures has become the first studio to sell $1 billion worth of tickets in the domestic marketplace this year.

In its rush to dominate North America with a crew that includes Iron Man, Indiana Jones, a kung fu-fighting panda and a somewhat luckless love guru, Paramount bettered the record that it set last year by nearly three weeks.

In 2007, it took Paramount -- then fueled by "Shrek the Third" and "Transformers" -- until July 9 to get the fastest-to-$1 billion record. Sony had established the standard on July 11, 2002, on the strength of the first "Spider-Man" movie.

Paramount also is the first studio of 2008 to blow past the nine-zero mark in foreign box¬office. It reached that last weekend, six weeks faster than it did in setting the same record last year. (Internationally, Fox is on Paramount's heels as it closes in on $1 billion.)

The Melrose Avenue studio also boasts the year's three top-grossing movies: "Iron Man" ($305 million), "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" ($291 million) and "Kung Fu Panda" ($156 million).

The fact that the studio gets to wear the boxoffice market-share crown doesn't directly reflect its own fortunes, however, since the profits on its biggest movies are being divvied up by others.

Paramount will take home distribution fees on "Iron Man" and "Panda" while seeing most of the profits on "Indiana Jones" go to the filmmakers.

"Iron Man" was produced by Marvel Studios, which pays Paramount a distribution fee under a 2005 deal. Given that movie's runaway success, analysts have estimated that Paramount will take home $50 million-$60 million for its efforts. But Marvel itself will reap the lion's share of the rewards on a movie that has already grossed more than $550 million worldwide.

Paramount earns an 8% distribution fee for handling DWA's movies, so most of the boxoffice success of "Panda" will be reflected in the publicly held DWA's earnings statements.

Paramount gets a 12.5% distribution fee on "Indiana Jones," which is nearing $700 million in worldwide ticket sales, but Lucasfilm holds the copyright to the revived franchise film. Lucas, Spielberg and star Harrison Ford also stand to reap substantial backend participation from that film.

Paramount's winning year kicked off in January with J.J. Abrams' thriller "Cloverfield," which scared up $80 million domestically.

This past weekend, the studio stumbled a bit with the release of Mike Myers' "The Love Guru," which didn't trigger much laughter at the boxoffice, arriving in fourth place with $13.9 million.

The studio is looking to recover its mojo in August with the DreamWorks comedy "Tropic Thunder," starring Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black.

Its year-end lineup includes another offering from DWA, "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" on Nov. 7 and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, arriving on Christmas Day.
